ENERSYS SANTA FE SPRINGS, CA

Calvert Architectural Group, Inc. was retained to develop a code compliant solution and design for EnerSys’s need for this lead-acid battery storage and repair facility. This facility is one of three major hubs that supports the servicing and repair of their lead-acid battery products nationally. The solution entailed creating three separate Fire areas, which total approximately 57,000 sq, ft of H-4 Hazardous Occupancy, which allows for product flow for storage and the repair process throughout the facility.

Project Highlights:

The corrosive battery electrolyte provided challenges for the testing area where after repair the batteries are charged and drawn down rapidly to verify the performance of the repaired battery. This testing process required a creative solution that captured the fugitive hydrogen gas emissions that were generated during the charging and draw-down procedures and prevented the accumulated gas from reaching the LEL.
